Exam Process

Both the C Ped Tech (C) and C Ped (C) exams are university level exams.
There are two exam sittings each year as follows:

SPRING

  • C Ped Tech (C), and written C Ped (C): second Saturday in March
  • Clinical C Ped (C): first Saturday in May

FALL

  • C Ped Tech (C), and written C Ped (C): first Saturday after Thanksgiving
  • Clinical C Ped (C): last Saturday in November

The C Ped (C)

The C Ped (C) exam is a two-part exam:

  • The first part is a written exam of 150 multiple choice questions. Three hours is allotted for the written portion of the C Ped (C) exam.
  • The second part is a clinical, oral exam, which involves practical testing of pedorthic skills. There are three sections of the oral exam: assessment (40 minutes); plaster casting (30 minutes); and shoe fitting (20 minutes).

Both the written and the oral exams are marked based on a MPL (Minimum Performance Level), and candidates are given a pass/fail result. The written portion of the C Ped (C) exam must be successfully completed before attempting the clinical exam portion.

The written portion of the C Ped (C) exam may be attempted three times consecutively. If it is not successfully passed after the third attempt, the candidate must re-qualify and restart the certification process, fulfilling the certification eligibility standards again.

Once the written portion of the exam is passed, the candidate has two years to successfully complete the clinical portion. If the clinical exam is not passed in that two-year period, the candidate must re-qualify by writing and passing the written portion again.

The candidate is allowed only three unsuccessful attempts at the clinical portion before having to restart the full certification process.

A five-year period is allowed for the candidates to pass each exam (three attempts at the written, three attempts at the clinical). Should the five-year or three attempts at each exam maximum be met, the candidate must restart the full certification process.

The C Ped MC

The C Ped MC examination is a  practical examination which requires the candidate to manufacture custom footwear for a patient with a moderately complicated lower limb condition. An overall average of 80% on the exam is considered a passing grade.

A proctor supervises each exam and portions are audiotaped and/or videotaped for marking purposes. Some initial marking takes place during the exam. The College of Pedorthics of Canada marks the overall exam at a later date.

A failing mark requires a complete re-write.

A candidate is permitted three attempts at the exam over a five-year period. After three unsuccessful attempts, or partial attempts, the candidate must re-qualify by gaining three additional years of full-time experience, before being granted another three attempts.

Should an applicant withdraw prior to attempting the exam, under reasonable and verified extenuating circumstances, a non-refundable credit for the full exam fee will be given. This credit must be applied to the next available exam session. A second withdrawal will result in forfeiture of the entire fee.

If an applicant’s performance during the initial stages of the exam is judged inadequate, the College reserves the right to halt the exam process. In such instances, a refund of half of the exam fee will be provided.

The C Ped Tech (C)

The C Ped Tech (C) exam consists of 80 multiple choice questions, and two hours are allotted for writing. 80% is considered a passing grade for this exam. The C Ped Tech (C) exam may be written any number of times.
